Fred Smith Shoes
Fred Smith Shoes has been located at 1528 Broadway since 1955. The structure was built during the 1880's and originally had a mansard style roof. A tavern was downstairs and the top two floors were apartments. Notice the turret on the second floor.
By the 1940's the mansard roof had been removed and the third floor matched the second. The turret was preserved.
Fred Smith Shoes moved into the building in 1955 and the building was renovated once again. The turret did not survive this renovation.
In 1964, the building was renovated to its current look. The top floor was removed and the second floor converted to office space. If you look closely, you can see where the second floor turret was once located.
